An Ann Arbor Wine Cellar

Dear HARC Supporter and Wine Enthusiast,

Thank you for your interest in the “Ann Arbor Wine Cellar Raffle”. Last year we raised $21,000 at our raffle and tasting event to benefit the HIV/AIDS Resource Center (HARC).

The centerpiece of the event is a raffle of an instant wine cellar, made up of individual donations from people like you – prominent restaurateurs, celebrities, politicians, artists, sommeliers - in short, the people that make Ann Arbor and its environs such a special place to live.

The key to success of the wine raffle was the incredible diversity of selections, and the personal touch of the donor.

  • We had donations of premier vintages from sommeliers and wine aficionados: Steve Goldberg (the Earle), Craig Common (Common Grill), Eve Aronoff (eve, the restaurant), Josh Powers (Quarter Bistro) and more.

  • We had donations from well-known personalities with labels that spoke of the person: Trillium Wine from Trillium Real Estate, Mayor Hieftje donates “Vina Mayor”, and Judy Dow annually gives a bottle of “Diva” champagne.

  • Some bottles spoke of a special trip, memory, or anniversary.  Patricia Garcia makes regular trips to Francis Ford Coppola’s vineyard in Napa Valley, and donates mementos of those trips.   Howard Israel and Henry Grix always give us wine and stories of trips to great wine regions of Europe.

  • Some donations were from vineyards the donors had visited and enjoyed: Stephanie Weaver from the Ann Arbor School of the Performing Arts donated a bottle from a vineyard across the street from where she grew up.  Marlena Studer owns a Chilean vineyard, and donates some of her own wine every year.  Laura Sanders gives a precious bottle from her own vineyard here in Ann Arbor!

  • All of the donations made this event possible!

It’s easy to participate:

  • Select a wine that means something to you.
  • Autograph the bottle.
  • Write a short description of either the wine, or better yet, your reason for selecting that particular bottle.

We will be happy to arrange for a pickup of the wine at your convenience.
